WELCOMING WORDS & THE QUESTION OF CONSENT
Welcome....We have come together here today that the two of you, Jane and John, may be united in marriage…to celebrate and share in this glorious act of love.
Marriage is an honorable and sacred relationship which unites two hearts and lives into one. Therefore, may it be in extreme thoughtfulness and reverence that you enter now into this covenant… And so, if the two of you are ready now to enter into this marriage with free and open hearts, then I ask that you please indicate as much by turning to face one another and joining both your hands together…(couple face one another and join hands)
John, do you take Jane as your wife, to live together with her in marriage? Do you promise to love, honor, and care for her, and to be a good and faithful husband to her as long as you both shall live?
(John answers): "I do."
Jane, do you take John as your husband, to live together with him in marriage? Do you promise to love, honor, and care for him, and to be a good and faithful wife to him as long as you both shall live?
(Jane answers): "I do."
VOWS
John, please repeat these words to your bride, after me:
I, John, take you, Jane, To be my wedded wife, To have and to hold from this day forward--- For better or worse; For richer or poorer; In sickness and in health; To love and to cherish So long as we both shall live.
Jane, please repeat these words to John, after me:
I, Jane, take you, John, To be my wedded husband, To have and to hold from this day forward--- For better or worse; For richer or poorer; In sickness and in health; To love and to cherish So long as we both shall live.
EXCHANGE OF RINGS
In a wedding ceremony, it is custom to exchange rings as a symbol of love…..May I have the rings?......As these circles, these rings, have no end…. so your love should have no end….and as often as either of you see them, may you be reminded of this moment and of the endless love you have promised here today……
So John, please take the ring you have chosen for Jane, and as you place it on her finger...repeat after me these words:
With this ring I marry you And join my life with yours Now and forever.
And now Jane, please take the ring you have chosen for John, and as you place it on his finger...repeat after me these words:
With this ring I marry you And join my life with yours Now and forever.
Jane and John---May the meaning of your vows be deepened in your hearts and minds, that you may loyally fulfill the promises you have made today. May your home be a place of peace, warmth, and rest, where all who enter will be touched by the light of your love… And may you wake each morning only to fall in love with each other all over again…
And now, since the two of you have consented to be joined in marriage, and have spoken your vows and exchanged wedding rings before these witnesses….. It is with great joy that, by the authority vested in me by the state of ___________, I now pronounce you husband and wife.
You may kiss your bride.
